We are pleased to announce that The Natural Step’s office in the nordic region, the Sustainability Collaborative, has achieved B Corp certification.  This is external validation that their team meets rigorous social and environmental standards and is committed to these goals over and above shareholder profit.

The B Corp certification addresses the entirety of a business’ operations and covers five key impact areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The certification process is rigorous, with applicants required to reach a benchmark score of over 80 while providing evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency.

The Sustainability Collaborative is operating two ‘impact business models’ that are connected to its structure. A mission lock is included in the organisation’s statutes, securing there is a clear commitment to the well-being of all stakeholders. Secondly, as a worker cooperative, personnel have the ability to shape and influence the organisation and be democratically elected to its board. An Impact Business Model is intentionally designed to create a specific positive outcome for one of its stakeholders – such as workers, community, environment, or customers.

The Sustainability Collaborative is now part of a community of 8,380 businesses globally who have certified as B Corps. The B Corp community in the Nordics now represents more than 130 B Corps and include well-known brands such as Ganni, 66 North, Summa Equity, Meyers, Icebug, Rudolph Care, Chiesi Pharmaceuticals, PNO Rental and Danone Nordics.

Founder and Executive Director of the B Corp Nordics, Nille Skalts, says:

“We are delighted to welcome the Sustainability Collaborative to the B Corp community. Their commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in business to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit.”
