Strategy is simply the name we give to order arising from chaos. This comforting idea goes way back to some of the pioneers of chaos theory. It is comforting because it reminds me that even "the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry" (with apologies to Robert Burns for the mangled translation). And that kind of comfort helps me to be more sanguine about the general lack of progress on sustainable development.

Last week The Natural Step Network-USA and Illahee hosted Boston College sociology professor and author Juliet Schor, who spoke about her most recent book Plenitude: The New Economics of True Wealth. Schor has examined the intersection of our economic and social systems for many years.
