Aquafil's eco pledge, Italy
Aquafil, a Verona Italy-based leading producer of synthetic fibres, has been working with TNS Italy to create and pursue its new sustainability vision: to become the leading company in the market of polyamide fibres and polymers, with total commitment to sustainability and an ultimate goal of contributing to restoration of the earth. Aquafil's top management has been developing its strategic sustainability competence also through a TNS eLearning and blended learning program. The company will issue its second sustainability report shortly, in which the new vision will be outlined.
Aquafil is working to develop closed loop cycle products, thus saving natural resources and contributing to the regeneration of the environment. They are setting concrete and measurable goals of climate neutrality by continuously increasing the use of energy obtained from renewable sources. They intend to achieve a 50% reduction of greenhouse gas (CO2) emissions by 2020, which is a noteworthy goal for a company with such energy-intensive manufacturing processes.
Aquafil first learned about The Natural Step Framework through their work with Interface Carpets, which has been working with partners across its value chain to mobilize the industry towards sustainability. Now Aquafil's example is starting to influence other entrepreneurs, who are learning about the pragmatic advantages of a solid sustainability strategy, and are recognizing strategic sustainability as a key driver for innovation.
